Time to maintain

Safety first

Safe diving

  1. Thumb: Check the pool (shape and depth)
  2. Forefinger: Check for objects (up and down)
  3. Middle finger: Plan your dive path (in and out)
  4. Ring finger: Spring (test the spring)
  5. Pink : Jump in deep first (first time)
  1. Know the water’s depth and the shape of the pool bottom including the upslope.
  2. Check for objects at the bottom of the pool and remove them including objects that can obstruct safe diving on the surface. Even small objects look bigger underwater and can disorientate people that are not used to diving, especially children.
  3. Plan your dive path. Always make a shallow dive and steer up. You’ll see that shallow diving is an art and gives the most satisfaction.
  4. Test the board for spring first before taking a jump into the pool! Walk towards the top of the board, feel its instability (it bends), learn how it reacts on small jumps first.
  5. Jump in deep first in any pool you do not know.
  6. Before you dive, you want to plan your dive path, so you are going to visualize ‘where you are going in the water?’, ‘how you are going to take a shallow dive?’ and by steering up, ‘where you will come out of the water?’, ‘Is there enough space?’, ‘Is there anybody in your dive path?’, ‘Is there an object that could hinder your movement?’
  7. Place your feet at the top of the board, keep your legs together and let your toes exceed the board for better grip, put your arms above your head to protect it, keep your stomach tight, bend over and dive.
  8. Never dive into shallow water, that’s where most accidents occur.
  9. Don’t dive off the side of the board. Don’t risk hitting your head on the side of the pool. Always dive straight ahead.
  10. Don’t run and dive.
  11. Don’t do a fat dive or fancy dive. Keep the dive simple.
  12. Always dive away from the board.

Maintenance of the wood

Keep your Mikel Tube® wooden diving board in shape.

  1. First use and progressive spring
  2. Regular check of the screws and bolts
  3. Outside furniture needs to be nourished with oil
  4. A cover is the best protection against the sun
  5. Once a year cleaning before storage in the winter

Once a year storage in the winter
As any other outside furniture made out of wood it is best to store it inside when not in use, during the winter, for example.

We recommend to separate the board from the bracket by unscrewing the 9 bolts that hold the board on the stand. Be careful, the board as such weights up to 85 kg (190 Lbs) and therefor is best removed by 2 persons. The stand can stay outside during the winter. Be sure to put the bolts back on the wooden board (keeps you from losing them).

Before storing this would be the ideal moment to give it a full treatment. You can now easily access both the surface and the underside.

1. Again give it a check on the screws first.
2. Get rid of the dirt and moss if any by gently applying sandpaper. No need to sandpaper the wood as such.
3. Apply the products you want to use (oil and stain combinations will provide the wanted aspect).
4. Once dry store the board face up on the extremities on something solid stones, crates (or you can hang it up the ceiling to save space). You can also store it in the crate it came with, but you then need to compensate for the height of the bracket that is still outside.

By storing it on the extremities you will reverse the bendforce.

Timeline : production of your board

Step 1 :

After you have configured your board you can request a quote. You’ll need to provide some extra information so that we can immediately make an engagement on the shipping for example. The form will take less then a minute to be completed

Step 2 :

Since we are working in another timezone we can promise you a quote for breakfast the next day. You’ll receive extensive information on price, the type of board and some technical details. A few days later you will be contacted by your regional contact by email to check if questions remain.

Step 3 :

If we come to an agreement we’ll put your personal board in production after we’ve received the transaction. Depending on the model or the season you may expect a lead time from 4 up to 9 weeks. This information will clearly be provided in the offer at step 2.

Step 4 :

While working on your board our administrative department will be in contact to get the paperwork done. Every country has different customs rules. The more we also want to communicate clearly on safety and maintenance. Finally, before shipping, a release document needs to be signed and the board can then travel to your doorstep.
